Barbara Bush Supports Gay Marriage

barbara bushBarbara Bush:Barbara Bush, daughter of former President George W. Bush has endorsed gay marriage in the State of New York.
She declined to be interviewed for an article in The New York Times, but the Times tells the long history of the family coming presidential public positions that run counter to those of their parent presidential.
Typically, at least on issues of equality, it is the children and spouses of Republican presidents and presidential candidates coming out with more liberal views.
Barbara Bush, one of the twin daughters of George W. Bush will approve same-sex marriage on Tuesday, publicly break ranks with a father who, as president, pushed through a constitutional amendment banning such unions.
Mrs. Bush, 29, has recorded a video of Appeals of New York to legalize gay marriage. A bill to do that was rejected by the state in 2009. She described the problem as a matter of conscience and equality.
“I’m Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality,” she said in the brief message, sponsored by an advocacy group. “New York is about fairness and equality. And everyone should have the right to marry the person they love. ”
Mrs. Bush is the last child of a prominent Republican leader to embrace gay marriage, long considered anathema to the conservative movement. Gay rights activists were quick to seize on the generational split as evidence that acceptance of same-sex marriage is blind to the values and party affiliation of the family.
I’m Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality, “she said in the video. “New York is about fairness and equality. And everybody should have the right to marry the person they love.”
During his presidency, Bush has pushed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage and has repeatedly stated his belief that marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman.
But many in Bush’s circle were breaking rank. Barbara first public reference to her post when she attended a fundraiser in September for the American Foundation for Equal Rights, the organization that led the court case to overturn Prop. 8 in California. The co-chair of the event was former chairman of the Republican National Committee Ken Mehlman, who came as gay in August and said he would fight for marriage equality.
